Collectivisation of Agriculture (农业集体化) 1953-1958
Subject
The topic of the resource
After land redistribution to peasants was completed, the Chinese Government began a process moving towards the collective ownership and management of agricultural resources. This resulted in the emergence of people's communes where all aspects of life, from canteens to schools, were managed by committees in an attempt to both increase production and further spread communist ideology.

Description
An account of the resource
This propaganda poster depicts the bumper harvest of 1958. We can see a woman here tilling the fields. Women living in communes were encouraged to work rather than dedicate themselves to family life - children were schooled on-site, food taken care of in communal canteens etc. This policy was enacted in order that women could contribute to increased agricultural production. The bumper harvest pictured here was however found out to be grossly exaggerated in terms of quantity.
