Description
During the Cultural Revolution, Red Guards attacked many religious sites. By now, Mao had become a god-like figure worshiped by a mass following. Many religious leaders were beaten and killed by Red Guards. Catholic priests were often coerced into denouncing their faith and those who refused were murdered.
